a blast

We hosted our second annual balloon pop NYE celebration, with the day's activities bursting out of the balloons with every pop. So we had a family walk, called Grammie and Papa to ask about the food they would eat for the rest of their lives, challenged ourselves to dice-balancing, made some fancy drinks, smooched Leo, and got creative in a drawing challenge. We enjoyed a cocktail party for supper and ended the evening with a countdown and some dancing.

(Quote of the day goes to Henry Kantor who never, ever in his life remains seated at the table for the duration in the meal. When we announced we were having a cocktail party we told Henry this is perfect for him, he doesn't have to sit down, he can get up and walk around! Seated, he replied, "I would rather not.")

Happy New Year everyone! Here's to good health and happy adventures in 2022! Now go to bed and see you next year.

too good tu-be true

We changed out of our pyjamas today and went on an adventure... tubing at Ski Snow Valley! The big kids hit the steep slope while Leo and I (and eventually Janie) tackled the little kid hill. The kids loved it, and Leo thoroughly enjoyed his first two runs before deciding he was done and ready to go now please.

We made the most of the day, having a nice visit with David's cousin and family who live in the area - Leo especially loved following their cats around and asking questions and trying all the baking treats. And then we came home to warm our bones by the fire with a weiner and marshmallow roast.

This was the one day of the week that we left the house. Totally tubular decision, according to Henry.

popping in

We had some surprise guests today - what fun to have friends pop by. My only regret is not having a cheeseball on hand... alas. Lisel and Co. came to drop off some Christmas cheer, then we convinced them to come inside, then we coerced them to stay longer with fun and games, and then eventually we might as well just eat supper together. We basically kidnapped our friends and held them hostage. And fun was had by all!

falalalala-ing

We've been over here being festive and merry and bright, and staying up late and eating yummy food and having no regard for the Canadian Food Guide whatsoever - this is Christmas!

Our family celebrations started with (Covid rapid tests for everyone! and then) Mass with the Kantors, followed by a delicious feast at Nanny and Grandpa's (Clara's dream come true - there was liverwurst! And figs!). Our Christmas was at home just the eight of us, finding surprises from Santa, building legos, grazing on cheese and crackers, playing new games, and putting together a raclette smorgasbord for supper. We expect the next few days to blend into each other in a coma of games and movies and Christmas baking - see you on the other side! And may all your days be blessed and lazy!
