Met up with the Dhas cousins at the park this morning for some running around, airplane-flying, and tree-climbing. Today I even let them monkey around on the play equipment, which no one has done all summer. Any day that starts with cousins is a good day.
Ta da! A quilt for Jane! This came together surprisingly fast during our Covid summer, and is made completely with scraps from past projects and backed with an old sheet that mom says she and dad got for their wedding. The girls like to point to strips and tell me where it came from (This is Annie's pillow! This is an apron! This is Mommy's pajamas!) and I like to see cute kids on cute quilts. Everyone wins!
The ladies had dentist appointments today. All went well. Clara discussed her loose tooth with the dentist, and now is very committed to wiggling it.

Some neighbours of ours are moving and are bringing over some of their grown children's pre-loved toys for us to enjoy. One day I walked out of the house to make an alarming discovery of a too-real baby doll resting on a fluffy Barbie chair. Jane has since adopted them both.
Today I am moping and missing my mom. The next time I see her, I will cuddle up on her knee just like in this picture. I'm sure she will appreciate that.
The house that great-great-grandpa built. We went on a road trip with Grandpa today, to find this family farm he once worked at picking cherries. His grandfather built the home in the picture and, while it may be missing some family love now, it still has its stories.
And our stories from the day include: missing out on seeing any boats in the Welland Canal, missing out on ice cream from a dairy because the line up was tooo-ooo long on a ho-ooooot day, but not missing out on any of the Tim Hortons between here and there because Janie had to go to the bathroom 362 times.
Road trips.
Woke up to these faces in my face, after a cousin camp out in our backyard. Girls in one tent; boys in the other. Most of the giggling came from the boys.
We headed East today to Darlington Provincial Park, to meet up with our Jeff and Maja friends. The Lake Ontario water was chilly but not unbearable. And the choppy waves that threw us and our inflatables around was so fun. The kids enjoyed terrorizing the seagulls. The seagulls did not care and were not deterred by their ridiculous tricks. And while the wind prevented any volleyball on the beach, there is always next year. We'll be back for more. Sorry, seagulls.
Boys return home today from an exciting adventure to the mailbox.

We played a great new game today... Surmania, created by Joe and Henry. It involves a pretty complicated back story, with the creation of a whole new world with five different continents with their own topography and world powers. But you can still play the game without too much knowledge of the super duper intricate details of each land mass. You do have to listen to a speech about it... but then you get to play. Best part - it's an everyone wins (or everyone loses) game to that lessens the risks of someone crying in the end.
