It's nice to see people, even if it's outside with masks. But we can't wait for the day that it isn't.

april showers
... or whatever. Snow and snowmen one day. Throwing baseballs over the snowman the next day. The weather is a roller coaster ride and keeps us guessing what our recesses will be like.

five alive
Here's Janie, and it's her day! It was a Monday during a pandemic and a day pretty much like every other day of her life except she added "because it's my birthday" to everything she did. So, she jumped on the trampoline, played with her siblings, ate a snack, went for a walk, drew some pictures, watched a show, ate French fries, and had a movie... because it was her birthday. She had a great, smiley day with a few (carefully distanced) visits from family and phone calls to share some love. The day was fun, just like her.

birthday eve!
We are gearing up to celebrate this gal! Janie! She's turning five tomorrow!
Let's see... what is our favourite thing about Janie? Well, for starters, she is a confident little lady. She can stand up for herself, pitting her preschool sensibilities against any of her older siblings. Her matter-of-factness and quick thinking usually provides a pretty good argument and, subsequently, she has attained levels of self confidence, positive thinking, and self empowerment that any motivational speaker could only hope to inspire. And this serves her not just in fights with big brothers, but in her overall vision of herself.
One morning, while out for a walk around the block, we watched as a serious runner approached. This guy was decked out in his running finest, and he had the speed to justify his aerodynamic leggings. Jane noticed him right away.
"Look at that guy," she said. "He's fast, just like me."
The tricky part is, Jane doesn't want anyone to acknowledge what she can do. If ever someone congratulates her, compliments her, or looks in her direction when she is doing something awesome, she caves immediately. At best, she becomes shy. Worst case scenario, she completely loses it. This obviously makes it difficult to celebrate her in any way but... we'll still try to sing Happy Birthday to her tomorrow and hope for the best.
Dear Janie, we love you! You are awesome in so many ways. We're glad that you already know it, so we don't have to risk you getting mad at us by telling you so. Look out five - here she comes!!
