clara's first day at home
Clara likes it here. She thinks she'll stay. Today we had waffles, went to the doctor, accessorized, slept, had a bath, and went swinging. Sounds like a nice day... who wouldn't want to live here?

clara jean marie
Ta da! Here is our baby! Clara waited until just after Annie's birthday was done (literally... it was midnight) and then she started showing (some very painful) signs that she was ready to come. So after packing up our kids and delivering them to Nanny and Grandpa's house, a speedy drive to the hospital, and a very short wait in the delivery room where she was delivered by the anesthesiologist (wait - what? you were supposed to give me an epidural, not a baby), Clara Jean Marie entered the world at 2:43 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5.
Before a gigantic dumping of pictures, here are my tired-brain bulleted points on our sweet little girl:
- she's our biggest baby, weighing 8 pounds, 11 ounces, and measuring 20.5 inches long (Joe is next up at 7 pounds, 14 ounces). Apparently, she enjoyed all the ice cream and cinnamon buns that I was enjoying while being pregnant.
- her middle names are in honour of her Grammie (Helen Jean) and Nanny (Mary Alfreda). Her first name was debated for a long time... it has no family connection but is one that we liked, links her to St. Clare of Assisi, and, ultimately, stood up to David's sports announcer voice test (where he says "Clara Kantor" in a deep voice, like he's colour commentating something at the Olympics).
- the kids LOVE her. We have already broken up fights over who gets to hold her next. And Annie is under the impression that we have given this baby to her, her two favourite expressions upon seeing Clara being, "MINE!" and "I hold it!"
- this is our first night at home with her, so we'll see what a sleep schedule looks like without all the hospital interruptions. Fingers crossed that I remember how to do all this nighttime stuff.
- David is awesome. Well, first of all, David's parents are awesome for looking after Joe, Henry, and Annie for two full days. And now David is being awesome... giving me time to rest and serving me hand and foot, all with a smile on his face. I feel as though I have won the grand prize in some sort of husband lottery or awesome daddy reality show.
- Clara is sweet, sweet, sweet. She is patient with her doting siblings and she squeaks while she sleeps. I have called her Annie about one-million times, but she is patient with me and all is forgiven.
- And now, here she is:
And this shall be my crazy life...

celebrating annie
today we celebrated our 2-year-old with...
prezzies / playing with prezzies / big smiles / napping time (not pictured) / mommy and daddy's undivided attention at a restaurant supper, just the three of them / birthday ice cream / cuddles with Nanny and Grandpa / refreshing rain
We had a restful and peaceful and joyful day, and it looks like Annie will have her birthday all to herself. Inside Baby, very thoughtfully, is waiting to be born another day.

par-tay
What do you do when your due date and your little girl's 2nd birthday threaten to coincide? Well, you plan nothing until the day before when, if it seems like you are, in fact, not going to give birth, you invite your sister and her family to join you for a barbecue and cake. And then you organize all the things that go into having a barbecue and making a cake. And then you act like that was your plan all along. (And you also plan a larger, joint birthday party with big brother Henry in September when your life won't be so crazy and your ankles won't be so big. That really was the plan all along but you just felt guilty letting the day slip by without doing anything at all.)
So, Annie, when you read this in however many years, please know that we love you SO much. We may not have put a lot of thought into your party, but we definitely put a lot of love into you.

go team kantor
After a too-long hiatus, due to time being occupied by basement renovations and painting and blabbity-blah-blah-blah, we resumed our Team Kantor Adventure Weekends today (that sounds exciting, doesn't it?) with a trip to the RBG Arboretum. The little hike through the trees and marsh was, as Joe said, "our best one yet." This will probably (?) be our last little outing as a family of five, and we're looking forward to the adventures as a family of six (but it is getting harder to get everyone inside the viewfinder).
