twirly girls

They like their fluffy skirts.

take a hike

We're trying to squeeze some more summer fun into these last days, so David took today off of work and we went hiking and swimming and did whatever we wanted to in between. Just wanted to show you Clara's hiking attire. This is what serious trekking looks like.

This is a rock that looks like a face.

Hiking. Twirling. Obviously.

A guy we met on the walk.

Clara is awesome.

And all of us.

that's in tents

Backyard camping night! Started with a throwback to our RV camping diet of hamburgers and marshmallows, then an outdoor movie (ruined by a bunch of mean mosquitoes who ate one side of Annie's face), and then into the tent (except for me and Janie). Everyone (well, maybe not David) slept better in the tent than indoors so we briefly considered doing this forever but maybe not. Joe treated us to some pancakes the next morning, and that was that for another year. Or until we decide that we are going to sleep out there forever.

elephant + piggie + annie + clara

We celebrated the girls today with their birthday party. Literary celebrities, Elephant and Piggie, were in attendance, as were cousins, aunties and uncles, and Nanny and Grandpa. We had water balloons, some water from the sky (boo), and cake and gifts and all nice things. Happy birthdays, sweet chickadees. We love you.

the barbecue

Thank you, Valentis, for another Salt + Light barbecue. We promise to host the Christmas gathering so we can see each other two times a year, instead of just one.

the beach

And today we go to the beach! We are just a fun factory over here. We met up with Tante Cheese, Emilie, and Danny for some Lake Ontario fun. (And, yes, the kids are sitting in a toboggan. That's how a mom slides all the beach fun from far away parking lot, across sand, to waterfront spot.) Anyway, 2 moms, 7 kids, and the beach - medals of achievement are forthcoming.

the zoo

Today we go to the zoo! It was just me and the kids and we headed to a small-ish zoo in Brantford, picnic and mom's strict guidelines (no running away, go to the bathroom when we're at the bathroom, and no running away) in tow. It was a fun day with crazy loud monkeys, lumbering bears, and funny lemurs (and no running away kids).
