doo de doo de doo

What do you do when you're waiting for your guests to arrive for your birthday party? Teach your little brother how to play the piano? Sure.

happy birthday!!

It's the birthday that never ends! Happy Birthday, Joe! We're happy to celebrate you now or whenever (but now seemed more convenient, given the craziness that was December). So, you're seven, you love the Blue Jays, and the cousins (and their parents) came over for hamburgers and hot dogs. A party we did have!

clara capybara

Here's our Little Miss Clara, a climber not a walker. One day I found her sitting on top of the kitchen table, throwing mandarin oranges on the floor. I've told her a number of times that if she put as much focus into moving forward as she does moving up, she could be running or doing hurdles or Olympic time trials or something, but it all falls on deaf ears. So here she is, climbing.

Her other interests include:
brushing her teeth
playing with that little knobby thing at the base of the toilet that covers up a screw
finding and eating ladybugs
examining electrical outlets
eyeing up little legos
emptying mommy's fabric scraps bins
pulling Annie's hair

She's a busy gal. Very full schedule, every day. But she's also sweet as pie and likes to hug and smooch her siblings and cuddle with mommy. She squeals with delight when she hears daddy come home at the end of the day and she loves to scamper up into her rocking chair to quietly look at books. She is just a lovely little peach in so many ways.

But I really wouldn't mind if she started walking. She's getting heavy.

lunch guest

Remember when I had a job and worked for Salt + Light Television? It's true. I did once. Anyway, today Salt + Light came to us. Fr. Tom was speaking at our parish for all the Masses, so we kidnapped him and brought him to our house for lunch. We had such a nice visit and learned lots about the Pope (it's nice when your friends are friends with the Pope and can tell you stories about it). And now off Fr. Tom jet-sets to the Philippines because that's just the kind of guy he is. From our house to the Eucharistic Congress.

Thanks for your visit, Fr. Tom!

Fact: All my babies are made of pierogis. That soft, doughy pocket of mushy potatoes and cheese is my happy pregnancy food. Five babies running now, it has always made my tummy glad. So when David and I had a chance to go out for date night... pierogies it was. Yum yum.

It's good to have a practice baby. You know, a baby your kids can look at to determine if they like babies... before you have another baby. Introducing... our practice baby Danny. And - good news - they loved him! Look at Clara's grin.

So thank you, Tante Cheese, for bringing the practice baby and sweet big sister Emilie for a visit. And we're so glad you have a birthday coming up so we had an excuse to eat cupcakes!

all in a day

Today we made cinnamon swirl quick bread, stew, and a loaf of honey oat. And a mess. We also made a mess. So here is Annie cleaning it up.

dear grammie and papa

Well, we're back home in Oakville now, and your house is probably tidy and quiet. Thank you for all the yummy food and snow and froot loops and pool games and toboggan rides and bowling and dancing and all the fun things you do for us and with us. We love you and miss you and, almost a week after coming home, Annie still says "going to Grammie and Papa's" was her favourite part of the day.

Sorry about your tidy and quiet house. We'll be back to mess it up again before you know it.

Look at that amazing form.

And with that skill and finesse, Ireland beat everyone at bowling, including the adults (Grammie, Auntie Michelle, David, and me). Also, Jett was very close to beating me. It's not that we weren't trying. It's just that we are really terrible bowlers. Er, I mean, the kids are really excellent bowlers.

even more danger fun!

What's even more dangerous than sledding down piled up, gravelly, yard snow? Probably pulling a toboggan behind a rhino. But Papa drove slow(ish) and everyone had fun. So here are a million pictures of that because Saskatchewan is lovely and the farm is pretty.

Let's take games + books + food + early baby bedtime (sorry, Clara) + dance party + pool + general noise and craziness + lame 10 p.m. countdown on the computer and... BAM... New Year's Eve Party. Welcome 2016!
