hansens and hot-tubbing

Do you know what all kids need after a hard day's play? A relaxing dip in the hot tub. And not to worry - this hot tub comes equipped with a certified lifeguard. Also, swimsuits optional. Underpants work just fine.

Thanks, Hansens, for hosting a yummy meal and a refreshing dip. Thanks, Matt, for your excellent bar service.

danger fun!

We're here! Arrived in Shaunavon yesterday and today busy with the Girodat kids. This snow pile on the farm looks innocent enough for winter fun but... it was a bit cliff-like with trees with sharp branches at the bottom. And also had a lot of gravel in it. Oh well. That's farm sledding for you.

our christmas days

We have enjoyed some good days here at home, celebrating with lots of people we love. A Christmas eve brunch with the Dhas family, Mass that night (which was a bit rough for Clara... and, subsequently, the people sitting around us), a family Christmas morning, and some delicious food at the Bodners on Christmas day. Boxing day was spent with all of David's family and there was more food, playtime, puzzles, and a walk in the park.

We're heading to Saskatchewan soon and so, amid all the Christmas busy-ness, there has also been organizing and packing for that. We received the clever advice to "keep your stress level high" ... you know how relaxation after a rush often leads to your body getting sick? So we were told to not stop moving, and we really didn't. I'm kidding (a little bit). We did love those good days at home, and we're excited to have some good days with my family, too.

hello neighbours

And Merry Christmas! We promise the baking tastes better than it looks. And Henry didn't sneeze on the caramels (simply wash and drain).

good old st. nick

We had our annual chat with Santa Claus today. And, like last year, it was so nice. Santa, for those of you who don't know, has a small cabin at the Royal Botanical Gardens and we like to visit him there. So do about 3,742 other people. On the same day as us. Which means long lines and wait times. But our kids did pretty well, with a woodland fairy wandering around to entertain and trees to look at and reindeer to pet. The woman behind us, however, did not do very well. Complain, complain, complain, we're never coming here again, complain, complain, complain. Gee whiz, lady. Anyway, after getting through the line, into the cabin, and up to the front, we had our visit with Santa. And it was lovely. Perhaps he had no concept of the long line of people waiting to see him, perhaps he didn't care. What he did care about was the kids, and spending enough time to gently talk with each one, to make them feel comfortable (okay, he tried but it didn't work with Annie), and to make them know they are special, just like Santa should. He was just so nice. After our visit and our walk back through the gardens, I told Joe and Henry that Santa can teach us a lot about peace and patience. We hurry (and maybe whine) through the season and the malls and the waiting in traffic and waiting in line but then... we are just given time and peace and a smile. And it felt so nice. I know - they know, too - that that's what Jesus does for us, that He's the reason we celebrate. But it's also nice to get that feeling from our friend St. Nicolas.

christmas things

Things I think are funny. So I'm writing them down here.

Before heading out for some Christmas shopping, I asked the kids what they thought Daddy would like for Christmas.
Joe - Earplugs! Or earphones!
Annie - With Elsa on them!
Henry - I know! Shoes!
Joe - Yeah! Shoes!
Henry - But straps or tie-ups? I think tie-ups, for sure.

And Annie, as we pulled into the mall parking lot.
"I come here all the time. Remember? I came here with Daddy? To buy you something?"

Oh, my people. They are so funny.

And here's a picture of Clara sleeping on me. Totally unrelated to anything I just said.

sixteen months

And look what she can finally do...

(standing, not walking)

She's pretty proud.

fa la la la la-ing

It's been a busy week of Christmas-ing. Joe's concert was on Tuesday, and Henry's on Wednesday. We got to enjoy the cousins at the St. Mary concert, too. Next up is Christmas caroling with the Church children's choir at a couple of nursing homes this Saturday. And, probably, a lot of humming around the house for the next few weeks.
