january

Henry's taking pictures today. See?

So far he's taken pictures of the inside of our pantry, his stuffed turtle, Clara's foot, and this chihuahua.
And me with some toilet bowl cleaner. Just doin' my job.

So, according to our picture files, we typically don't do very much in January. Lay low, wipe some runny noses, and read lots of books. But lazy days are going to change. We're starting the renos on the other side of our basement. We finished up the rec room/office side before Christmas, cleaned it up, enjoyed it... and are now making a big mess again. Deadline: April. Mom and Dad are coming to visit and probably don't want to stay in a pile of smashed up wood panelling. Probably.

That's all for now. Clara says hi. And now off we go to pick up Joe from school.

spin class

Clara doesn't really get the jolly jumper. Neither does Annie.

roll call

They're all here.

I do find myself counting heads at different points throughout the day. I have also started monitoring our progress in percentages... 50% of my children are dressed... 25% have brushed their teeth... 75% made their bed. Somehow I feel like this helps me keep a handle on what needs to be done and get us out the door in the morning. I could just as easily do this by counting but percentages feel like progress to me. Even if it's 0%.

sleepover

When we renovated our basement and put in some fluffy carpet, Joe and Henry thought there would be no better thing to do than sleep on it. So we invited the cousins over to break that carpet in. Here they are, at 6:30 this morning because, I guess, you need to be awake to fully appreciate the fluffiness of the carpet. (Not pictured: Annie, because she got kicked out of the sleepover for poking people, and Clara, because she is too little.)

haircute

Well, Annie's been growing out the same hair since the day she was born. Maybe time to shape it up, so off we went for her first hairdo. She started excited, turned grumpy, ended happy (with the help of a lollipop and a balloon). Unfortunately, Annie's mommy is terrible at communicating and we didn't get quite the cut we wanted AND really crooked bangs. Still, today's the day we write in the books as "Annie's first haircut" ... whether I like it or not.

working on it

When you ask Annie to smile, you get a squished-face-puckered-lips kind of grin. And when you say, "Smile! Show some teeth!" this is what you get...

5 months

Growing and happy. Loves sucking in her lips. Squeaking and squawking. Rolled once. Has shown no interest in doing it again. Smiles 90% of her day.
