halloweening

Here they are: two airplanes and a pumpkin. In my imagination, the airplane costumes were more awesome. In reality, not as convincing as I had hoped. Fortunately, this three- and four-year old truly believed they were Dusty Crophopper and Bravo the Fighter Jet. Mission accomplished.

Joe had some Halloween fun at school, and Henry and Annie and I went to the Tiny Tots parade in the morning. After supper, we did some trick-or-treating in the drizzle, and then welcomed about seven kids at our door. Now David and I are enjoying a mountain of mini chocolate bars. Caramilk - yum.

a relaxing bath

... after a gigantic poop. Better this than the other way around.

and then...

And then we took Joe to a mini-concert put on by the Oakville Symphony Orchestra for kids. It was a busy day. The symphony was really good, but don't double-book a four-year-old... it can be rough. Lesson learned.

it's a zoo

We took a field trip to the zoo today. We saw pandas, tigers, turtles, gorillas, and the Moynihans (intentionally... we saw all those things intentionally... and from a safe distance). We picnicked with the peacocks, ran after kids, saw a lot of animals without a lot of people (three cheers for the zoo on a cold October day!) and had a fun day.

a pain in our ash

This is our Ash tree in our backyard. Taking this picture made me realize it is not a beautiful tree... but it is a tree and (1) mature trees are one of the reasons we bought this house, (2) it provides the perfect amount of shade on our patio for a suppertime barbecue, and (3) it is really fun to chase people around.

BUT, thanks to the Emerald Ash Borer, our tree is dying and could be dead and ready to flop down on our house in as little as seven months. So we need to cut 'er down. I am in mourning... our backyard will look so sad without the tree and shade and what will we run around? So, goodbye lovely tree. I will miss you. And this view.

today

It's fall. The leaves are pretty. We went on a hike.

"This is awesome!" Joseph proclaimed. And so it is.

1000

Look at these people...

This was the first picture I ever posted here on this bloggity-blog, all the way back on August 19, 2007. We were newly-ish weds, about to leave for Europe and Australia, and had not yet taught a single person how to poop on a toilet (well, our track record for that is still not super amazing).

Now, ONE THOUSAND posts later, here we are.

...with little Annie-pants peeking over our shoulder (always... there's always somebody peeking over our shoulder). It's six years and three kids later and this blog records 1000 things I thought were interesting enough to take buckets of photos of and tell a little story about. Were they interesting... I don't know... but here they are. I'm not sure if this feels more significant or funny for me, that all this is here and this is my life and this is how quickly time has gone by. But I do know I'm glad. I'm definitely glad for all of it.

beware of smooches

They can be a little bit snotty at times.

weekend wrap-up

Well, as I said yesterday, Happy Thanksgiving. We celebrated by eating a lot of turkey and a lot of pie. Annie really enjoyed herself at the following dinner tables...

Thanksgiving #1 - with the Dhas family, at our house. Kids worked up an appetite with pre-supper leaf jumping. David made a delicious turkey. And, though I tried, my potatoes were just not as good as Grammie's. As Lily said, "Everyone knows that Grammie makes the best potatoes."

Thanksgiving #2 - at the Bodner household, and doubling as Jonathan's birthday party. Happy Birthday Jonathan! Annie enjoyed both your birthday cake and the pumpkin pie!

Thanksgiving #3 - here, today, at our house. We had a busy chore day outside and then enjoyed part of our garden harvest in a yummy cauliflower soup and bacon and tomato sandwiches. We enjoyed our feasting this weekend and have so much to be thankful for. Amen.

return of the Harrisons

We are so glad to have had a visit with our Harrison friends, who have been gone from Ontario for something like two-billion years. And while nice, it was tooooo short so please don't wait another 2-billion years to come back. Thank you.

after-school programming

Outside. The weather is beautiful these days. And the hour between 4 and 5 is best spent outdoors. Supper can wait.
