diary of two boys and their mom

To be honest, it's been getting a bit boring around here. Daddy's had the car, it's been too hot to go outside, and we got stuck in the same routine. So we tried to spice it up this week... doesn't look like much when it's all written down like that, but it did make a difference in behaviour and attitude and overall happiness. So three cheers for a schedule and faces like those on Wednesday.

big boy bedhead

The bigger the bed, the bigger the bedhead, it would seem.

We've made the leap. Started on Friday... Henry slept in his big boy bed. The first night was surprisingly easy and David and I thought we were Amazingly Super Parents. We only had to go in once to put Henry back in bed and that was it - both boys slept happily through the night in their shared room.

Last night... after six visits, they finally quieted down (by "they" I mean Henry... he likes to travel around the room). And tonight... well... I just checked on them. The light was on, Henry was standing beside a sound-asleep-Joe, about to poke at his eyes, and every pillow from Joe's bed (that his head wasn't on) had been thrown to the floor by Henry. How do I know it was Henry? Because Joe hadn't moved a millimetre from when I left the room after saying good night the first time.

As for mornings... Henry used to sleep until about 7:30, but now Joe wakes him up promptly at six. And then they merrily bounce into mommy and daddy's room.

This is only the first weekend of this, so it will get easier? More sleep? Uh, I guess we'll see.

We invited Jonah over to play... we meant just toys but it turned into a bit of a concert (no video because, while it looked cute, it really sounded loud and terrible).

And after all that playing, Joe was literally played out. So this is what happened...

happy father's day!

Father's Day means...

breakfast in bed
doughnuts for lunch
a family hike
catching caterpillars
photography by Joe
and a team photo

We're happy to celebrate Super Dad. We love you, Daddy!

they like movie nights... or popcorn... one of those

Almost every night, Joe asks for a movie night. And the best part about it - when we finally say yes after six nights in a row of asking - is the making of the popcorn. I don't think they really care about the show, and sometimes while they're sitting there they forget to eat their popcorn. But making the popcorn - oh boy. That's where the action is.

child of God

Joe celebrated his Baptism Birthday today... it was really yesterday but Daddy had a work function and couldn't be home for supper... so don't tell Joe. So today we pretended it was his Baptism Birthday, lit his candle, said a special prayer, and ate ice cream. Probably the part that was most important to him was... the ice cream. But fingers crossed that someday it means something a little more.

p.s. thank you, Molyneux Godfamily, for your phone call and song! It helped make the day special!

I broke our blog. I'm trying to fix it. But I'm computer illiterate.

In the meantime, here's a new layout that I have no control of. Boo.

bike gang

Stay off the roads, people. They're more dangerous than they look.

a hug around the neck

More visiting... this time from the Valenti family. Thank you for making the trek out here... hope you found a nice home to live in on your drive around the neighbourhood...?! After all, it would be nice if you lived close by and Henry could hug Chiara all the time.

30 weeks

Already. Just a couple more months to go and we'll meet this little person inside. Joe is convinced this is a girl and won't even entertain the idea that we might be bringing a baby brother home from the hospital (ie. when I suggested it, he cried). So whenever I ask what we should name the baby if it's a boy, he just offers up girl names... until the other night when he came up with:

Madagascar Kantor

I told him I would put it on the list.

ra-chel ra-chel rachel

That's Henry's new song (tune changes, words stay the same). It's a song about Rachel, who came to visit and play and it was awesome. Thanks for coming to stay with us and for all the chatting and catching up. Henry's still singing the song about you, which I take to mean he would like you to come back anytime. The rest of us agree.
