lise and phil get married

On a brisk, beautiful day in December, Lise and Phil said I do. We were there and so honoured to witness such love and such joy.

and also...

A random sampling of other things that happened.

Annie and Jet / Matt, Top Gun, and Bandit / Annie and Becca / Annie in a doll carriage / Grammie and Papa got a pool table / Joe really likes to shovel snow / Joe and Kaycee / "Now I don't want to see these pictures showing up on the blog."

merry christmas!

Our day was both full and beautiful. Santa gifts, Mass, brunch, gift-opening, and dinner at the farm. No naps and lots of noise. Good, good food and plenty of it. Family. And warmth. Merry, merry.

sick days

We had some of those. Everyone did. Grammie. Papa. Cousins. Aunties and uncles. And mommy and daddy. It's nice to share? No, wait. They only applies to toys. Not germs.

light show

Good job, Shaunavon, with your Christmas lights. We enjoyed the show. Okay, Henry didn't but that had more to do with him having to wear his ski pants than his not appreciating the brilliant display of lights.

We were happy to attend both Ireland and Kaycee's Christmas concerts when were were home. Kaycee is the one who looks like Miss America, and Ireland is the one who looks like Mary.

Full disclosure: Matt was also in the Christmas concert. But I don't think he would speak to me again if I posted his picture here. The end.

what cold looks like

This. Brr. We spent our Christmas in Shaunavon, then raced back for Lise and Phil's wedding, and are now spending New Year's Eve catching up on our life. Our holiday has been good - lots of family and friend time - but also rushed so we are looking forward to a slower pace in 2013. Happy New Year everyone!p.s. Saskatchewan is, indeed, cold in the winter.

"soon I'll be 81!"

So we'll need to work on his counting and understanding of the passage of time. But for today, we just celebrated him. Joe turned four! Four? Yes. Four. (I repeat that for my own purposes, because I cannot believe he could already be four.) We loved Joe up yesterday and today with restaurant food (ie. chocolate milk and a hot dog), bowling (look at that form), and a family birthday party (with balloons and a train cake). And everyday we celebrate him with all the love we can give him... that determined, funny, clever, shy, caring, helpful, goofy whippersnapper that he is.

Happy 4th Birthday, Joseph William Gerald. We love you so much.

joe meets santa claus

What? That's not a picture of Santa. That's our priest, Fr. Mark. We went to our Church's Christmas Open House this afternoon and, while other kids were meeting Santa, Joe preferred to have his picture taken with Fr. Mark. It seems that Joe is afraid of Santa, Henry wasn't so sure himself, and Annie was sleeping and had no idea what was happening.

a kantor christmas

Another year, another Kantor Christmas party, another load of cabbage rolls and lasagna (yum), and another great-grandkid photo (that keeps getting bigger and bigger). Merry Christmas, Kantor family!

we three kids of oakville

ta da

1. This is what it looks like when you wear 9 pairs of socks. (Annie thinks that is ridiculous.)

2. Henry has adopted my Cabbage Patch doll. Meet Baby Nan.

3. And these are the results of Christmas baking with two boys and a crying baby. We were going to give them to our neighbours. But, perhaps, in the interest of staying on good terms with our neighbours, we won't.

annie and tink

Annie met Tinkerbell at Lily's birthday party today. I have to say Tinkerbell isn't great at holding babies, and she leaves pixie dust wherever she goes. But that's to be expected, I suppose. She is a fairy, after all.

first snow

It was gone by mid-afternoon. But it was fun while it lasted.

I play basketball on Wednesday nights. Not to worry - Joe fills in for me.

keeping up

Annie likes to play with her brothers. The bumbo is a big help. Thanks, Bumbo.

annie elizabeth

Annie is a clever girl. She knew that it was probably best to get all the yucky stuff out of her before she was cleansed by the waters of her Baptism and welcomed into the Church family. So that's what she did. She waited until she was bathed and dressed in her Sunday best and we had just arrived at noon Mass, which would be followed by the Baptism of her and two other little girls, to poop long and hard to get out all that sullied her system. And she did an excellent job, spilling out of her diaper, onto her white tights, and all over that cute little ruffle dress from Auntie Chelle. 'Twas an awesome, poopy, sour-smelling mess that took me right up until the Liturgy of the Eucharist to scoop up and wipe off. I cradled her in the ladies' room, balancing her on the tiny change table, gathering up the soiled clothes, and dressing her in her Daddy's Baptismal gown.

But then she was clean.

And moments later, even more so, washed clean and sparkly - inside and out - by our Lord. We pray that it always be so.

Happy Baptism Day, Annie Elizabeth. You are such a gift, such delight, to us.

and while they were here...

these things happened...

lots of books were read / Lily turned 5 / Baby Gaby turned 1 / Andrea turned... older and received her family in felt form / Henry watched the Grey Cup / the boys visited some trains / they said "cheese"

I love my dress. And don't I look terrific? Thank you very much.

Surprise! (kind of!) 'Twas so much fun to celebrate you on Saturday. We're so excited for your wedding and promise to do everything you need us to do, such as supply you with pina coladas and monkeys and such. Cheers!

It's the Royal Winter Fair! Time for our kids to get agriculturalized!

Annie and the cows / Henry and Joe / hungry cow / feeding time / giant pumpkin, little hand / Annie in canola / if I could carve butter, it would be a pig riding a scooter - why not?

three months

why kids are great

p.s. I think there are a great number of reasons why kids are great. Their interest in and ability to vacuum is merely one of them.

dear daylight savings

We forgot about you. It wasn't until five minutes before we were set to rush out the door to Church that social media reminded me that everyone else in the world (except you, Saskatchewan) set their clocks back an hour this morning. But, as it turns out, telling your kids they have an hour more to play is one of the greatest gifts you can give them. And I filled my hour by taking pictures of Annie, wearing a skirt, and tights, which is doubly amusing.

So, thanks, Daylight Savings, for a nice day.

Taking kids bowling. Everyone should do it. But probably not make a habit of it.

Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Today was a drizzly day, but I had some determined trick-or-treating boys and so off we went, to the Tiny Tots Parade, to wear cardboard costumes in the rain. They held up surprisingly well (both the costumes and the boys) and we now have A LOT of loot. Add that to the candy that we bought but didn't hand out... because only three kids came to our house. Joe was so disappointed... he, so very badly, wanted to hand out candy. So if you stop by our house in the next few days, or if we happen to greet you on the street, or if you live anywhere in the vicinity (ie. the world), don't be surprised if Joe gives you candy. The boy just wants to share his candy. How can a mom complain about that.

gearing up

The boys and trains are getting ready for Wednesday. Here's hoping the coming Super Rain does not turn our cardboard costumes to mush.
